OK here's my own story of beating a tough one-
Starting from a long struggle with ulcerative colitus that ended in surgery, I started gaining weight, about 2 lb a month, for years. I'm a light eater (usually) and was pretty active, and I tried very hard to work it off but it just made me tired and I lost nothing.
After countless dr visits and dead ends and "WHAT are you EATing?" I was 285-300lb and getting old fast (I'm 47 now).
End of story-I was on a thyroid pill (Synthroid) that makes people huge if you get "reverse T3 syndrome." Besides that, some other hormones were out as well (thyroid is a hormone) but none of these were checked because they come from your adrenals and not the thyroid, even when I protested to the drs that they must be missing something.
I found a dr that specializes in "hormone balance" and that was the answer. I lost 10 lb a month for the last 12 months (120 total) and it reversed all the problems.
People don't recognize me, or they think I got a bypass, or sometimes they just freak out over the difference like they aren't sure about it yet.
It's amazing what can happen when medicine screws up, and more amazing when you find the answer.
