I'm not trying to undermine proper use of anti-depressants, but more or more people i know have admitted using them in the past or currently. A few of them actually said they were prescribed them but never used them b/c they had realized they were not needed. I was curious to know others feeling about this topic. Are thousands or even millions being misdiagnosed? Is there greater risk of misdiagnosis when it comes to mental disorders?
I think there is a risk in diagnosing itself
in the way that it's assumed that the
practitioner knows exactly what the problem is
and how to fix it. I believe that depression
is a more complex psycho-physical state than
just a lack of serotonin, and just like it's
common in medicine, drugs deal with symptoms
(not always successfully, by the way) but do
not address the cause.
