Don't you just love marketing gurus, the mad men and women of corporate America? Well, they're at it again, and this time they are peddling a smaller version of the same old "junk" under the lesser of two evils concept - noting that people will get fewer calories. Really? Remember the "bet you can't eat just one" slogan the potato chip marketing folks used? Knowing full well that Americans can't eat or drink just one of anything - it's obvious when considering the obesity epidemic - they will not be able to drink just one can of Coke-mini either. And as the author pointed out, doing so will provide even more calories and unhealthy sugars (and other assorted chemicals) than drinking the regular size Coke.
The dietitian suggesting that teenagers will benefit from drinking Coke mini because of its energy boosting effects, is outright nuts. Not sure where she went to school, but drinking high-glycemic beverages causes a spike in blood sugar and insulin resulting in reactive hypoglycemia - and this produces the lethargic and unproductive state that many experience after consuming such drinks. But wait, they can remedy this reaction by drinking another Coke mini - what was I thinking???
