My wife and I were assigned to a marriage counselor instead of the counselor our son was seeing which is perfectly reasonable decision on their part. Unfortunately the counselor, he, seemed pretty hostile towards me in from the start. After several visits of being asked several times pointedly by him "why didn't I just divorce my wife if I was so unhappy", I walked out, never returned and am having immense trouble trusting another clinician again.
I have never heard of a therapist to have such male/hostility issues that it overpowers his perception. Be aware to judge the therapist by themselves and not the practice. Personal experiences and biases are as present in counselors as it is in us. This was a horrible experience that has damaged my marriage further which my wife and I continue to work out in spite of this experience.
