Daniel J. Donovan, MD, FACC is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology, and he practices at the Medical Center location of Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio.

Dr. Donovan has a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. He received a Doctorate of Optometry at New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts, and then served as Chief of Optometry at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas. He received his medical degree at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Donovan completed his residency, earning the title of Chief Resident, and his fellowship in Cardiology at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He completed his fellowship in interventional cardiology at University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

After completing his interventional cardiology fellowship, he returned to Wilford Hall and assumed various roles to include Director of Cardiovascular Research, Director of Peripheral Intervention, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and, eventually, Chief of Cardiology. In 2002, he briefly moved back to private practice in Worcester, Massachusetts, before returning to San Antonio to join Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio.

His academic appointments have included Assistant Professor of Medicine University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Donovan was also the Program Director of the Transitional Residency Program at Wilford Hall.

Dr. Donovan performs transradial heart caths where coronary arteries are examined and treated through the radial artery in the wrist, instead of the femoral artery in the groin. It's more comfortable in patients who are candidates for this approach, and the risk of bleeding and vascular complications are reduced in the transradial approach.

Dr. Donovan's expertise also includes structural heart disease. He performs transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs) both transfemoral and transapical TAVR procedures at the South Texas Valve Center at Methodist Hospital.
