About

Diane Gold, DOM

Dr. Diane Gold has been interested in the healing profession, in one form or another, for most of her life, developing an interest in herbal medicine as an adult. Traveling as a military spouse in various parts of the world brought the realization that there is more than one kind of medical philosophy. After being introduced to acupuncture as a patient, and being amazed by the results, she knew Chinese medicine was the path she wanted to follow.

Graduating from Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine, in Gainesville, Florida, a school known for its pulse diagnosis techniques, Diane has had extensive training in Eastern medical theories, while also being introduced to Western medical classes. After many hours of treating patients as an intern in an outpatient clinic, and passing national board exams, Dr. Gold is licensed as an acupuncturist and Doctor of Oriental Medicine, and now serves the Tallahassee and surrounding area.

Diane practices and teaches Qigong, a type of Oriental exercise similar to Tai Chi, and is a Level 3 certified instructor.

Acupuncture is the insertion of hair thin needles into your body. After a thorough intake, a diagnosis is made and a treatment plan is drawn up. Then your acupuncture physician will insert virtually painless needles into the skin at various acupuncture points along the body, allowing a free flow of Qi, or vital energy, to flow through the body. Since imbalances in the free flow of energy and blood can cause pain and disease, correcting the imbalance will help to restore health and function. Acupuncture helps the body to achieve optimum homeostasis and is quite safe. The needles are sterile one time use needles that are disposed of in hazardous waste containers.

Oriental Medicine, including Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a form of primary health care which offers various techniques and approaches utilizing methods such as acupuncture, acupressure, Oriental massage, herbal medicine, nutrition and lifestyle counseling, and Qigong.

Considering the complexity of the human body and the multiple factors involved in the healing process, whether from illness or injury, we put together a comprehensive treatment plan for each patient. In Chinese medicine, we see the body as a whole, and are able to treat both the physical and mental/emotional aspects of each individual, working with you on your road to well-being.

Qigong, pronounced ‘chee-gung,’ is an ancient Chinese health care system of exercise that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused attention. Qigong is made up of two Chinese words. Qi is the life force or vital energy that flows through all things. Gong means ‘work,’ or ‘skill that is cultivated through practice.’ So, qigong is working with, or cultivating, energy. Qigong is a system of gentle, slow, rhythmic movements practiced for health maintenance, healing, and increasing vitality, and is similar to tai chi.

Qigong, reduces stress, builds stamina, increases vitality and enhances the immune system. It has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions. Those who maintain a consistent practice of qigong find that it helps to regain and maintain a more youthful vitality and to maintain health even into old age. It helps with balance and helps re-establish the physical, mental, and emotional connection.

Qigong is not only for adults. Studies have shown that children of all ages and into their teen years, who practice qigong are more relaxed and less stressed. They tend to have improved behavior, have fewer days out due to illness, and are more able to stay focused and maintain better grades. Qigong can improve their confidence and self-discipline, respect for self and others, and fitness levels.

I didn’t get any relief from this practitioner. All she did was talk and try to sell products. She also talks horribly about anyone else who works in that office. She’s socially awkward and I was offended that she thought I needed supplements to lose weight. I maybe overweight, but I don’t need anyone telling me.
