I felt like a celebrity walking down the hall at my daughter’s school today. I usually brace myself to go there not knowing what someone might say about my daugher’s behavior. My daughter has had many struggles in school due to her inability to focus and sit still. She is very impulsive. We had a lot of people suggest that we put her on medication to make things easier for “all”. My wife and I, for many reasons are not keen on the med. route. We have had her do vision therapy, sound therapy, OT. We even had her officially diagnosed with ADHD so that she could get assistance at school. She tests to high to qualify as having a learning disability. All of these things, I firmly believe, have helped my daughter.

Dr. Kristen Barenborg recommended we have our daughter tested for food sensitivities (ALCAT). I again was skeptical, but my wife is relentless and ultimately won and we had the test done. We got the results back a couple of weeks after Christmas. We were stunned at the results!!!! Many of the things we were feeding her, that we thought were “healthy”, were actually not good for “her” at all. We found she was highly intolerant to dairy, peas, grapes, cucumbers and egg whites, Blue dye 1, green dye 2, aspertame and BHA… We were restricting gluten already because you hear so much about it these days. But surprisingly, gluten was not on the high end of her list of sensitivities. We realized we were feeding her wrong for “her”. So we started her on a diet routine. It’s been about 6 weeks and she’s totally owned and embraced her new diet! WE ARE SEEING RESULTS everyday. Most are small things that I thought no one else would recognize, but we’ve been silently excited by each little thing. When I went to the school yesterday, my daughter’s teacher came up to me and said, Mr. Lukas, I really think the diet Mira is on is making a significant impact on her behavior. She’s a new kid. She is not disrupting the class at all and has become much more in tune with neatness. All of the teachers are talking about it.” She actually said “significant”!

I am so glad we had this food sensitivity test done. Who would have thought a marshmellow could hurt your kid much less a pea or a cucumber or a glass of milk? I would’ve been better off giving her a glass of soda. This is so important and not many people know how even foods that are supposed to be healthy for you can actually hurt you and how much they impact behavior and mood. This information must get out there! I hope this helps some other child and their families. My wife and son are the next to be tested. I will update again. For now I am elated!!!!!
