We first learned of Atlas Center through their ad in the Mining Gazette. I got the impression that their method of chiropractic was altogether different than anything in the U.P... Their emphasis on aligning the atlas is certainly a large focus but this is still chiropractic - it is not a different specialty (which is kind of what I thought when I read about them). They seem to combine a "hands on approach" with the activator method. Andrea and Dave are very friendly and seem passionate about their work. They have always been thorough and effective in their treatments. I believe they are the most expensive chiropractors in the Keweenaw Peninsula - $45 for a 15 min. appointment - and you do have to make an investment in order to become a patient (with the initial exam, required X-rays, etc) but they offer payment plans for the initial appointment. They do not have an office staff - and both Andrea and Dave (I believe they are husband and wife) - see patients in the office. This results in difficulty in scheduling appointments - I have never actually been able to get a hold of anyone in their office during regular business hours. In order to make an appointment, you have to leave a message and have them call you back. I really think they need someone to answer the phone - when you are in pain or need an appointment it is unsettling waiting - sometimes over a day - to get a call back to schedule an appointment. Even though they are amongst my favorite chiropractors in the Keweenaw, I am frustrated by the lack of availability or even lack of contact in trying to schedule appointments.
