Services Dr. Baker uses many therapies to treat her patients. The following is a description of some of the therapies Dr. Baker offers.

A. Diversified Adjusting Techniques: Manual adjusting of the spine or extremities to re-align the joints. Click here to see a video of an adjustment.

B. Tractioning Methods:
Spinalator (Intersegmental Traction): The spinalator is a tractioning table with a system of rollers that moves up and down the spine, gently tractioning and massaging the spinal muscles and joints.
Long Axis Tractioning & Flexion-Distraction: These treatments gently distract the vertebrae resulting in disc decompression, reduced nerve root pressure, and decreased pain. Click here to see a video of the Flexion-Distraction method.

C. Physiological Therapeutics:
Muscle Stimulation (Interferential Current - IFC): This type of therapy uses electrical pulses that are transmitted to specific areas of the body through electrodes placed on the skin. These are beneficial for pain relief, to reduce inflammation, and reduce muscle spasm. IFC also stimulates your body to produce its own painkillers called endorphins and enkephlons.

Ultrasound: Therapeutic ultrasound works by sound waves, which penetrate to the bone/muscle interface. When applied to soft tissues and joints, the sound waves help reduce swelling, increase blood flow, and decrease pain, stiffness, spasms, and adhesions.

Ice and Heat Therapy: Ice therapy is used to reduce swelling and help control pain immediately after an injury. Heat therapy is used to relax the muscles, increase circulation and provides relief to patients with chronic pain.
D. Activator Adjusting: A gentle, low force adjusting technique. It incorporates a unique system of administering spinal adjustments.

E. Acupuncture: Small needles, the diameter of a hair follicle are gently and skillfully inserted on body depending on pathology patient has. It can be used for many problems from muscle spasms to arthritis pains, etc. Click here to see a video of acupuncture.

F. Massage Therapy: Massage therapy helps decrease muscle spasms, improves circulation and reduces pain. At Baker Chiropractic & Acupuncture Clinic we use a variety of massage therapy techniques such as: Trigger Point Therapy (TPT), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Spray & Stretch (S&S), and Intraoral TMJ Stretch Techniques. Dr. Baker will choose the best methods for your specific condition. She may also suggest a referral to another specialist for more intense massages and/or trigger point injections if needed.

G. Therapeutic Exercise: Dr. Baker utilizes specific exercises for her patients with back, neck and extremity problems. Different exercises are used at different times during the healing process (Acute Stage Exercises, Subacute Exercises, Chronic and Rehab Exercises). Each series of exercises are used to promote different phases of healing, flexibility and strength. Thus, proper timing of exercises decreases pain, prevents muscle atrophy, promotes joint health, increases strength, stability and range of motion, and protects against new or recurring injuries.

H. Custom Made Orthotics: See Foot Levelers, Inc. website here Foot Orthotics

I. Nutritional Counseling: Chiropractors study nutrition throughout their four years of doctoral training. Thus, Dr. Baker is well trained and certified to discern the nutritional needs of each person. She may design a nutritional program specific to your needs that will help you maintain good health. The nutritional supplements, herbs or homeopathic remedies suggested have a direct and lasting benefit to her patients. Dr. Baker may also suggest a Hair Analysis and lab tests to determine which nutrients/supplements are needed.

J. Lab Testing: See ZRT Labs website www.zrtlab.com

K. Hair Analysis: Hair Analysis is a test to assess the level of nutrients in the body: what’s missing, what’s needed, and any toxic substances.

L. Lifestyle Modification Counseling: Good health is much more than the absence of pain or disease. The lifestyle choices you make on a daily basis can greatly affect your long-term health. We now know that small unhealthy lifestyle choices can, over time, turn into very large health problems. Examples of lifestyle choices and behaviors that can have negative effects on your health include:

Lack of regular exercise
Smoking
Poor Diet
Excessive mental stress
Over-reliance on medication
Excessive consumption of alcohol
Poor posture
Improper lifting

In this modern world in which we live, it is difficult to make only healthy lifestyle choices. Dr. Baker will talk to you about lifestyle choices, help you sort through and identify unhealthy health habits, and give you practical strategies to deal with and manage them. In addition, she may suggest further care by referring you to another Health Care Specialist, if needed.

As you can see, chiropractic medicine is more than just spinal manipulation.
