About

Kim Tousignant, Psy.D., Psychologist

Serving the general population - ages 2-102!
My approach is down-to earth, nurturing, direct, and designed to seek solutions. The Initial Assessment is very comprehensive, as I seek a full understanding of how you came to be in this situation, stuck and wanting to move forward. Therapeutic tasks are developed, as a team, to meet your life goals. Improvement of daily functioning and quality of life guide the purpose of treatment whether the focus is on an individual (child/teen/adult) or a relationship. When working to improve a family I often coordinate with multiple “systems,” i.e. family members, schools, physicians, and other community organizations. Teens tend to engage nicely in my treatment.
I have expertise, gained over the last 30 years, in the psychological difficulties that result from trauma and abuse; i.e. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder and Dissociative Disorders. These disorders can be ingrained, long standing and resistant to treatment. My treatment tends to be useful when other treatments may have failed. A four-legged fur co-therapist (dog) facilitates healing.
Approved by Maine Department of Corrections to provide Sexual Offender Treatment. Children with sexual behavior problems through adults with special circumstances can make gains because my approach is individualized (instead of group or “classes”) and the full range of life experiences and mental health issues are combined in the treatment.
I provide Consultation to schools (daycare through college), organizations, EAP programs and new clinicians going into private practice. I coordinate with a variety of local and governmental agencies. Advocacy has led me to be involved with reform of governmental activities such as: Family Court, Guardians ad Litem, Child Protection and Mental Health Licensure. I am expanding into Seminars (Writing an UNBIASED Report, Dissociative Disorders-child & adult, Client-Centered LEARNED HELPLESSNESS Model Can Promote Growth).
