About

Bel-Michele DeMille, Psychologist andMarriage&FamilyTherapist

I see adults in my practice for individual, couple, and family therapy. I do pre-marital counseling. Typically, I see people in therapy who have a combination of symptoms that impact on their ability to work successfully and make good relationships. They include mood disorders such as depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder. Other symptoms that are common are grief, loneliness, isolation, anger, rage, fear, feeling frozen, malaise, chronic pain, sleep disorders, physical illnesses, addictions and consequences of abuse.
My expertise includes, but is not limited to, cognitive behavioral treatments, relational treatments, mind/body techniques, guided imagery, interpersonal therapy and psychoanalysis.
I also specialize with addictions.
I am a Coach for individuals with ADHD who need to learn compensatory ways to improve their life's functioning. I do couple counseling to help the couple deal with the impact of ADHD on their relationship. I COACH attorneys in preparation and presentation for trial. I also COACH physicians and patients. The way I practice therapy is interactive. I offer a warm, pleasant, and bucolic setting that creates comfort and safety. People feel that I am a kind, knowledgeable, and affable therapist who helps them learn about themselves and their life circumstances, so that better choices can be explored and made.
I never fail to be awed by my patients' ability and courage to face themselves and evolve in committing to the therapeutic process. Together, we discover their creativity and strengths that they use to survive difficult circumstances.

Services ADULT PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS AND COUPLES:  I assess the issues individuals bring to our initial session and suggest the treatment approaches that would best address the person's distress.  If the person agrees and consents to treatment, we begin our alliance and work collaboratively, defining short and long term goals.
ADDICTION TREATMENT:  Besides being a proponent of a 12 Step approach, I assess the biological, psychological, and social factors that culminate in a person's addiction.  My approach incorporates harm reduction to help and support a person through recovery.  Among some of the issues that need to be addressed are motivation, triggers, and relapse prevention.
PRE-MARITAL COUNSELING & COUPLE COUNSELING:  Couples engage in pre-marital counseling who want to enhance their communication skills.  Then,  they can address the areas of life that they will share with better understanding of the other's point of view and have clearer expectations.  The best predictor of a good relationship is the couple's ability to work out conflict. When I do pre-marital counseling, I help the couple work out a system by which they can solve conflict.  Pre-marital counseling allows the couple to establish their relationship on a strong foundation with commitment to awareness and growth.
COUPLE COUNSELING:  In couple counseling sessions, each person's views of the issues disturbing the relationship are expressed.  Through a variety of exercises I guide them through, we determined the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship.  Using empathic listening techniques, learning how to speak from the Self and not just blaming the other, helps the couple to achieve better understanding of each other.  We  use role playing and role modeling to achieve these abilities.  Homework and exercises are given for outside the sessions to achieve the best results in the shortness amount of time.  A system by which they can work out conflicts gets established, agreed upon and practiced.
PARENTAL GUIDANCE: One or both parents seek out counseling for help to deal with issues concerning their relationship with their child(ren). Parents form an ongoing relationship with me where they can access my services from time to time as they need throughout the course of their children's lives.  A particular specialty of mine is with issues concerning blended families.  I also help older parents who divorce understand and manage the impact of divorce on their older children.
COACHING: Adults with ADHD: I help adults with ADHD learn and implement strategies that will enhance their lives. Additionally, I do COUPLE COUNSELING  with couples where a partner's ADHD is impacting the relationship.  I help them learn how the relationship needs to accommodate each person's preferential learning style.  The couple learns to appreciate the positive and negative attributes of each with love, respect, and support.
COACHING: Attorneys: I help attorneys prepare and present their cases for trial so that their own anxiety does not diminish their performance.  Together we analyse the courtroom and the attorney's relationship with his/her client(s), the judge, jury, opposing counsel and the elements of the case.  This consultation allows attorneys to be fully prepared for the psychological dynamics that impinge on a trial.
COACHING: Physicians:  I help physicians improve their interpersonal skills that will enhance their relationships with their patients and staff.  These developed skills greatly improve patients' health, well being, and satisfaction.  Unquestionably, improved relationships with staff lead to a much more successful practice.
COACHING: Patients: I consult with patients about their overall medical well being.  I help them improve their relationships with their physicians, organize their medical records and history, and determine their needs for the particular stage of life.  Having this information usually allows  a patient to feel empowered which positively impacts their overall health.
CORPORATE CONSULTATION: I conduct Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) programs for private companies and government agencies.  I do debriefing, defusing, grief & loss sessions as well as Pre-Crisis Education. Additionally, I offer ADDICTION programs that are short or long term.
