My husband and I encountered a rough patch a few years back. I saw Ann individually and he saw Roger. Then we'd meet, all 4 of us, for couple's counseling. It was not "pleasant" per se, due to the nature of our discussions, but it was so profoundly helpful for us to learn to open up and communicate. Respect, honesty, intentions. They may very well have saved our marriage.
