This was an unfortunate first experience in counseling. I saw Ellice, despite asking for an appointment with someone else. The first session seemed OK, even though she checked her phone a lot during. Then when I came the next week, she didn't know who I was, asked me who I was there to see. Then when we got seated, she asked me again, why I was there, like why I wanted counseling, despite spending an hour the previous week establishing that. Then she started telling me that I said things that I didn't say. For example "Remember when you said you get really focused?" I never said that, that's not me at all. It was very disconcerting. Finally she did most of the talking. Again, this was my first experience but I've found out that these are all warning signs that you are not working with a very effective counselor. I understand that a counselor may see a lot of clients but even my doctor remembers who I am, and I see her a few times a year. I was using EAP appointments and I feel like I wasted 2 of them.
