About

Mary Ann Barnovitz, M.D.

I am a board certified psychiatrist specializing in a combination treatment approach encompassing both medication management and psychotherapy. My treatment emphasizes the development of an active and collaborative alliance with my patient along with coordinating care with other medical and mental health care providers. I am dedicated to providing high quality, individualized, and empathic care. When I work with individuals who are working with a therapist, I respect this relationship and collaborate closely with the therapist in providing psychiatric medication management.

I graduated with honors from the UC Davis School of Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency training at UC Davis. In addition to my private practice, I have served as volunteer clinical faculty at the Transcultural Wellness Center for the UC Davis School of Medicine and Department of Psychiatry. I have co-authored a book published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins titled Medical Psychiatry: The Quick Reference, am a member of the American Psychiatric Association, and served on the steering committee on practice guidelines from 2005 to 2007. From 2005- 2007, I received the American Psychiatric Association /AstraZeneca Minority Fellowship Award and am a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Before embarking on my medical career, I served five years as a Naval Intelligence officer.

Mary Ann is a pleasant appearing, highly verbal, client focused doctor. I thought that a specialist would not explain every aspect of my clients care. She is quick to consult with the doctor making the referral so that there is a healthy loop in the total care of the person. Her qualifications begin with her professional standing as a top doctor. When she worked at UC Davis, she was honored by both the medical community and the community at large.Dr. Barnovitz is easy to reach in an emergency. When I called she returns my call within one day. Great person, great healing and an obvious love for her work..

They definitely care about patient comfort because they have the best waiting room chairs I've ever seen. I could have easily taken a quick nap while waiting for my appointment. They would never suggest that I buy something that wasn't necessary, and never pressured me. They were always very considerate and professional. Their primary concern is my safety and comfort, and they always take the time to address every concern of mine immediately.
