About

Robert Shafer,, Ph.D., MFCT

The central focus in my work is to help my clients explore their unique, subjective experience and to make sense of it in a way which is both deeply meaningful and healing. Often we can only really see ourselves in the mirror provided by another. The framework of empathic understanding and support provided by the psychotherapeutic relationship enables the client to see him- or herself more clearly. By understanding strengths and weaknesses in the light of early experiences which have shaped them, emotional distress is relieved and individuals are empowered to make more effective choices.

Services Contemporary psychoanalysis is a psychotherapeutic method which can benefit a wide range of people including adults, adolescents, children, families, and couples. It is a valuable avenue for self-discovery and personal growth, helps create more intimate and rewarding relationships with others, and develops the clients own resources for resolving emotional problems. Unlike the picture of a bearded professor listening in neutral silence while the patient lies on a couch, contemporary psychoanalysis is an interactive conversation in which therapist and client collaborate together in understanding the psychological patterns which are causing the problems.

Trust me when I tell you this guy is not someone you want to get therapy from. He will overcharge you, be sarcastic, very negative, non-supportive and downright mean. I would not suggest this guy in anyway. he has feelings of extreme self importance and is so utterly proud of his two PHD's that he will brag to you about it to no end especially to the fact that his mother never appreciated his education or him. He's got major family and mother issues and it shows in his practice.
