We met and talked with Sylvia today. I had talked with Dawn yesterday... I have read all the comments and honestly I have not experienced any of the negative reactions some apparently have had... When I called, I was not put on hold. When we made an appointment to talk to Sylvia, it was not cancelled. Actually to the contrary, she took an hour and a half showing us the place and answering any questions we had. The cost is very reasonable... I am especially impressed with their Stage concept in caring for their patients... Compassion was very evident by every one we have met from Dawn, Sylvia, Kimm and Vicki... When we arrived to take a look at the place, they had activities going on in the rec room. Zumba, I believe... Every patient seemed to be enjoying themselves and Vicki is an excellent activities director motivating all of them... By the time we returned they were playing bingo. Some had won some paper (probably monopoly) money that they could use to buy something at the up coming auction... They have a month to month calender of all the activities they have... Anybody that knows anything about Alzheimers/Dementia knows that activities play an important part in helping these individuals self confidence and self perception. We have probably looked at, at least 8-10 assisted living facilities that take care alzheimer/dementia patients (with varying degrees of the illness) from New Port Richey to Spring Hill in the West Pasco area. We have been the present care giver to our loved family member, so we are not naive to the care it takes (both physically and emotionally) of a person with this disease... We have seen other facilities where the patient seems only to be a number and necessity in order for the institution and the staff to receive a paycheck... Of those 8-10 places we have visited, only in one did I visibly see where activities were available.. Like I said, available... Yet here, they (the staff) were actively involved in getting the patients involved. This is the only place that I have been where the patients did not look lethargic. And the only place where the staff seems to be actively involved in caring for the individual while creating a meaningful and stimulating environment. They are involved with their patients, trying to keep them active working both the body and mind in hopes of prolonging the quality of life for the individual... I was totally impressed with the Cottages of Port Richey and I am sure we will be seeing them soon...

They paid close attention to me and all of my questions were answered. Their staff is the most friendly, welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better. I was so impressed with the progress I was able to make after visiting them. All my questions were answered, and I feel a lot more confident and hopeful about the future. I will absolutely return. I had an amazing experience, and they were by far the best I've ever seen. They answered my questions and spent a lot of time with me. I didn't feel like they were trying to rush my appointment at all.
