After relocating to New York, I needed a new eye doctor. I called around and chose Family Vision Care Center because they could get me in quickly, as I was about to run out of my contacts.

After four eye exam visits, one contact order, and nearly 10 different trials….I'm going to another doctor. I was actually told that, despite my eye sight still being off, that "this is as good as it will get." Sorry, but that's not an acceptable answer when it comes to my eyes.

Below I have written out my entire almost two month ordeal with Family Vision Care Center. Infer from it what you will, but I will not ever be returning.

---

Visit 1: The staff was nice. The doctor conducted an exam in about five minutes and there was no wellness exam at all. I brought my previous contact prescription, but the doctor acted as though it wasn't needed. The exam when well, and he gave me trials of bioinfinities, because the biometrics they were ordering me weren't available right then in trials. I was hesitant at first but assessed they were basically the same thing, and they fit well, so I figured why not? I'll admit this was my first mistake.

When he took me to check out, the desk girl asked me how many boxes I wanted to purchase. Since they were doing so well in my eyes, and this was custom with my usual doctor, I ordered two boxes of each eye. My second mistake, but with my previous doctor, I never even needed to trial. Unfortunately I was very, very naive. So I cashed out and the contacts would be shipped to me.

Arrival: They arrived promptly when the office said they would. I kept wearing the trials for another week though, so as to not waste them. A week after they arrived I opened the first box of contacts, and the Left one was excruciating in my eye. Scratchy, blurry, and just not right at all. I didn't even open the Right contact box for fear of more of the same. I scheduled an appointment right away to see what was wrong.

Visit #2: I was told the contact must be a dud, because I had worn Ultra Flex before, and those are basically Biometrics and that must be the case! Against my better judgement, another Left contact was opened and I tried it out. Once again it was scratchy, but the vision was admittedly a bit better. I was assured by Dr. Taub that any irritation was from the previous contacts. I was still having problems with them before I left, but I trusted the doctor. My third mistake.

After going to work and experiencing more eye pain in my left eye, I eventually took my contacts out and wore my glasses (which are 2 prescriptions old) to help relieve the pain. I left my contacts out over the weekend and made another visit to the doctors office, with every intention of returning the contacts.

Visit #3: I brought the contacts to return, and the owner got involved. Susan tried to explain to me that the Biometics they ordered me were the same as my previous Ultra Flex, so there shouldn't be a problem. Well, that's FANTASTIC, but the excruciating pain said "Gee, maybe there's a problem here despite that." They now said maybe the entire first box was a dud, so they opened my second box which was a different batch. Once again I let them know it was still scratchy but they told me once again that it was just residual irritation from the previous contacts (which I hadn't been wearing in three days....)

Once again, the contacts continued to irritate my eyes so I called back and informed them I wanted to exchange the contacts for the kind I trialed, the Bioinfinities. But I didn't trust them at all, so I asked for one more set of trials.

Visit #4: Picked up the trials, and when I returned home to put them in……they were horribly blurry. The prescription was off. I noticed that the prescription on the new trials was different then the original trials……and also the box of my ordered contacts. All three were different prescriptions, but it hadn't been changed at all yet. I called and left a message about my concern, and Susan called me back and explained the Biofinitiies could only be ordered in half or quarter sizes. I told her that the Left trial he originally gave me was -5/-1.75/Ax20…….and she said that was not possible. That was when I told her I was looking at the trial pack and she sounded surprised. Then she explained he never wrote down the trial prescription he gave me. Another prescription was ordered for me (sadly I had not kept the original right eye trial so they guessed.)

The new prescription was off so I saw Dr. Taub again. This time he said the prescription was too strong, and thanked me for being so patient with them…..then he tried to order this new prescription for me, despite not having trials.

Seriously. This time I had learned my lesson and said no. Thankfully so because despite saying during my exam THREE times that I liked the fit of the Bioinfinities and and chosen to go with those, he ordered me trials of the Biometrics which, shocker, irritated my Left eye.

Visit #5: Called back to make an appointment with another doctor. Honestly, if I didn't have to return the original contacts, I would have already cut my losses and gone elsewhere. The second, Dr. Ruggiero, was a younger girl my age and she listened to me which was so appreciated. She had trials close to my prescription, but the right eye wasn't strong enough….or so it seemed.

Visit #6: The contact in my right eye wasn't too week, it was too strong. Dr. Ruggiero also had to correct the sphere in my left eye. Unfortunately they were still off, and she told me that I was very "particular" (which seemed like an insult, but she backed it up with, "we love clients like you!") and that this was as good as my prescription was going to get and that she could see me again for fit, but implied it would be a waste of her time.

So I called another eye doctor and made an appointment that I'll be paying nearly $170 for out of pocket, and I returned my contacts at the office. I received a measly $55. My insurance covered $105, and I paid $90 originally.

So now I have to pay $170 for a new exam, and cover the cost of a new batch of contacts….so by the end of it all I'm going to be out $455 ($35 for the original contacts that wasn't refunded to me, $170 for the second exam, and about $250 for the new contacts)because they're an incompetent office.

I was so impressed with the progress I was able to make after visiting them. All my questions were answered, and I feel a lot more confident and hopeful about the future. I will absolutely return. I had an amazing experience, and they were by far the best I've ever seen. They were absolutely amazing and make others in the same field look like beginners. They've never used foul language, which has bothered me at some of the other places I've been too. They always make an extra effort to be polite and courteous.
