Dr. Joel Murphy graduated Cum Laude from Virginia Tech with a bachelors degree in biochemistry and minor in animal psychology. He received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the world renowned University of Georgia Veterinary School. After graduating veterinary school Dr. Murphy did an entire year of advanced training in traditional medicine and surgery. . This was the most intense year of advanced training as he worked hand in hand with some of the top dermatologists, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, radiologists and internal medicine specialists in the country. In addition to his advance training in the diagnosis and treatment of dog and cat diseases, he served as Director of Exotic Animal and Bird Medicine at the University of Georgia Veterinary School and taught all of the exotic animal and bird classes to student veterinarians.
Certification
Dr. Joel Murphy is one of the first veterinarians in the world to become diplomat, American Board of Veterinary Practitioners Certified in Avian Practice. This is the only advanced certification for exotic bird medicine and this level of expertise requires an extremely high level of training and testing.

Dr. Joel Murphy is a nationally recognized veterinary expert in exotic bird medicine and has completed advanced training in the medicine and surgery of cats and dogs. Dr. Murphy, former director of University of Georgia Teaching Hospital Avian/Exotic Department, has written books, lectured across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Dr. Murphy has been featured on Animal Planet and Good Morning America as well as many local TV shows. Dr. Murphy is the Director at the Animal & Bird Medical Center of Palm Harbor serving both pet bird owners and aviculturist. As well as running a state-of-the-art hospital, Dr. Joel Murphy also does holistic medicine.

Horrible! Diagnosed my African Grey with Aspergillus which she did not have. Dr. Murphy kept treating her for about a year, lots of dollars, time, and tears. In my opinion, this man is a total scam
