About

Bruce Fry, DO

Dr. Bruce Fry is a board certified physiatrist who specializes in interventional treatment of the spine. He grew up in Knoxville and returned to practice with KOC in January 2002. He went to Farragut Primary School through Farragut High School where he played high school football.Dr. Fry is active at his church and enjoys cycling and shooting skeet with his son. He has a twin brother who practices optometry in Knoxville and has three older brothers. His father practiced radiology in Knoxville and retired a few years ago.

Dr. Fry has a unique approach to the treatment of the spine. He is a physiatrist trained in nonoperative musculoskeletal care and disorders of the nervous system. He completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and served as chief resident. He completed his fellowship training in interventional pain management with Dr. James Beretta in Birmingham. He is also an osteopathic physician and is trained in manual medicine as well as traditional medicine. This adds an additional treatment skill he can offer patients when appropriate. The specialized treatment skills learned in his fellowship include epidural steroid injections and a variety of other fluroscopic guided procedures that address different disorders of the spine. He has also completed training in ultrasound guided procedures and implements this in treating spine patients when appropriate.

When a person is seen by Dr. Fry, they are evaluated in the clinic and a thorough history is obtained. The patient is then examined and imaging is obtained, if appropriate. This is then reviewed with the patient. Dr. Fry believes it is important for the patient to understand the problem they have so they can better understand the treatment plan. He also emphasizes that the patient’s participation in their care is a crucial part of the treatment process, and physical therapy is often implemented. Although surgery is not required for most spinal disorders, Dr. Fry can recognize those that may require surgery and will refer these patients to a spine surgeon when necessary.

Their office was one of the cleanest offices I've ever seen. I'm usually somewhat sensitive to the cold, so I was a little worried that their office would be too cold, but it was fine. I was very comfortable the entire time. I was so impressed with the progress I was able to make after visiting them. Dr. Fry is a specialist in nonoperative spine care so I expected it to be a while before I could see him. Wait time was not very long and the time I waited was well worth it as he explained everything to me and took time examining me. All my questions were answered, and I feel a lot more confident and hopeful about the future.
