Been saying for years that I need to find a new family doctor and am currently looking. Never felt like he "got it" when I spoke to him. Never seemed to take my chronic pain seriously, "Take Advil, my favorite over the counter medication." I went elsewhere and found others who did help me. Now he's in trouble with the FDA regarding poor quality mammograms. Once he was told to stop doing them, he sold me one last mammogram right before the deadline. Now I have to have someone else review the mammogram and possible have it redone.

I last saw Dr Adelman 4 years ago in 2008, for a physical. Today I attempted to schedule another physical and I was treated as if I what I was asking for was nearly ludicrous. I was told that I would have to schedule a New Patient Office Visit first, so that the doctor could "get to know me again", since it had been so long since he last saw me. I got the most incredulous tone of voice when I was told "you're not even in the new system yet!" Oh how far I have fallen...I'm not in the NEW SYSTEM!!!

So apparently, after I had the "get to know Dr Adelman again" visit, I would then be permitted to schedule another appointment for the physical, later. I asked if this was a requirement of my insurance company, and I was told no, that it was policy of that office. Seems a little strange, considering a physical was the sole purpose of my very first visit with Dr Adelman over 15 years ago.

The icing on the cake was when I said "well, I guess if I'm a stranger to him, then I might as well look around for a new family doctor" and I was met with indifference. Dr Adelman is a fine man, but he lost my business for having a silly (greedy?) business practice and office staff who care more about procedure than patient care.

The most ironic thing about the whole misunderstanding: in what way does a General Practitioner "get to know" his patients that doesn't involve the exact things that are done in a physical?
