This man treated my son for depression. His drug treatment protocol was extremely careless and risky, however he did not bother to inform us of the risks. He knew my child had been suicidal, and yet doubled his dose of anitdepressants in the first 4 weeks of treatment, even though at 24 my son was in the highest risk group for increased suicidal thoughts with antidepressants. In addition he prescribed another drug that can have severe side effects (5mg of Abilify), telling him to take 1/2 a tablet and then to double the dose after a few hours. This proved disastrous, whereupon he told us that he couldn't take it, and that there was no comparable drug he could take, because of his sensitivity. However there was improvement that both my son and I noticed the next day, so he began taking a quarter of the prescribed dose and gradually building it up to 3/4 of a tablet over the course of a week, and he did well with that. When he returned to Greer, he was told to take more, whereupon he came home and took another dose, equalling in total twice what he had been taking. Again he had a severe reaction and panic attack. When I called Dr. Greer his response was cavalier and uncaring. While I had no problem sharing my concerns with my son, Greer let me know that he would have to tell my son that I had called him. I found his tone threatening and he seemed put out that he had to speak to me at all. He then reversed his position that there was no other drug in it's class that would work for my son and said he could try something else. Yet when he saw him again, he told my son to just experiment with the Abilify, and then doubled his dose of Lexapro from 10 to 20 mg. Then he set up an appointment for a month later. From there my son began to go rapidly downhill. I was disgusted with Dr. Greer and had made an appointment with another psychiatrist, as well calling his therapist to say that I was frightened for my son's life. I was given no help and my son took his life a few days later. When Dr. Greer first saw my son with me, he was experiencing a psychosis brought on by street drugs. He was obviously in very bad shape. I spoke of hospitalization, but Dr. Greer advised against it.
I cannot help but feel that if my son had received treatment from someone other than Dr. Greer, he would be alive today. I am appalled that this man is practicing medicine. His license should be revoked. My beautiful precious son is gone,
