10/17/11 my 47 yr old husband had a MILD stroke, within hrs of being admitted to the hospital he had a Grand Mal Seizure causing 5 compression fractures in his back. Once released from the hospital D r. Barrett became his Neurologist. Dr. Barrett prescribed the anti-seizure med Keppra. The med caused extreme negative side effects including deep chest pain. Dr. Barrett changed the med to Lamotrigine. For 6 weeks he had to take BOTH meds. At the end of September 2012 I was extremely scared and phoned Dr. Barrett to advise him that my husbands side effects had worsened significantly. Every time he took the anti-seizure med it seriously intensified the discomfort in his chest, he was also saying things he would not normally say and falling asleep at the dinner table and his desk. Dr. Barrett focused on the mental effects and completely ignored the physical complications. He told me "it is all Psychological". 2-1/2 weeks later my husband, now 48 years old, died.
