The worst customer service I've every experienced. The receptionist was rude and arrogant. They dentist didn't care; he overheard and was laughing. When I asked him about the behavior of his employee he brushed it off. If you want to be treated like dirt or a best a 2nd class citizen, go to westwood dental. If you want to be treated with respect and like you business is appreciated, find an alternative. Plenty of other dentists in Houston the will appreciate my money.

Reviews of dentists tend to claim each doctor is either "PERFECT!!!11!" or "SATAN!" This is distinctly unhelpful, so I'll try to be specific.

This dental office is easy to get to, but the area did not look safe. I had to walk past a guy smoking pot at 9am on a Monday morning to get to the front door. I felt nervous about leaving my car outside. I don't have a nice car or anything--the neighborhood just looked bad.

When I suggested to the receptionist that she might consider calling the police to check on the stoned guy right outside her front door, she said "Oh yeah, we do get those" and made a joke about the people who frequent the adult daycare next door. I can understand not wanting to alarm the other people in the waiting room, but I got the impression that the cloud of pot smoke outside was not unique to that morning.

The office was not particularly clean. It may just have been old, and I did assume everything was disinfected. My general impression, though, was that the facilities were not well cared for.

I don't know the name of the dentist I saw. I don't think he ever told me what it was, but perhaps I just forgot. I watched him interact with 2 other patients while I waited, and I wasn't impressed. Both needed surprise root canals. When he then announced that I needed one also, I didn't see any good reason to believe him.

He told me that if I didn't have it taken care of it would become very painful "And you'll come back begging for help, and I won't help you. I'll send you home with a painkiller until I have time to get to you."

He actually said that!

To his credit, I later went elsewhere for a second opinion and found that I do need one. He was right--but he was rude, he was very pushy, and he tried to scare me into letting him do it.

I wanted to have a night guard made, and he pushed me to purchase the more expensive model even though he said it would be painful to wear at first. I have a medical condition that makes even wearing glasses painful, so I told him that wasn't an option--he insisted and brushed me off when I tried to explain my medical history. My past dentists asked detailed questions about my health, so I thought this was strange.

I gave up and left without having the guard made; I'd already been there an hour and a half, I was very uncomfortable with the way the dentist treated me, and I had the distinct feeling that he was trying to get as much money as he could out of me.

One of the staff handed me a price quote for the root canal and night guard. The price included several expensive extras that they didn't explain (to be fair, I was in a hurry to get out of there and didn't ask).

Worse, they wanted to charge me for things that I know are fully covered by my insurance. Perhaps they made a mistake. I think it's more likely they were trying to overcharge me.

Either way, I found a different dentist to do my root canal, and I am paying him cash. His price is fully half of Westwood Dental's, and even though I had good insurance coverage through a DMO, I'm not paying him much more than they tried to charge me.

My experience at this office was so bad that I dropped my DMO dental insurance. I would rather pay for everything myself than get stuck with a dentist like this one. I will let my insurance company know that, and will encourage them to drop this office from their preferred providers list.
