I was very upset by my visit today to shore pediatrics office. My 14 yr. old daughter had a return appointment for filling of cavities and an extraction. I gave the front desk the letter from the orthodontist specifying which tooth was to be extracted. Dr. Kate asked my daughter if she was seen by an orthodontist and when her answer was vague she did come out to the waiting room and ask to speak to me. (We have been going there for over a year and they have the records that she is under an orthodontists care) Thank God she did as she was going to extract the wrong tooth. My daughter suffers from an inherited condition where she is missing 7 of her permanent teeth. The last visit there, Dr. Kate said she should have 4 extractions, meaning she would start her freshman year in High school missing many teeth. . After consult with Jess's orthodontist 1 tooth was to be extracted in the back of her mouth that we knew had an adult tooth coming in. I asked for Dr. Kate to fill what I knew was a baby tooth, on the other side which was causing her pain. Yes I know it eventually will fall out and there is not much root structure, but it is worth it to try to salvage the tooth until it is absolutely necessary to replace it. She finally consented she would fill it. I learned in the car Dr. Kate upon trying to extract the other baby tooth, which had a larger root than normal, that she said "calm down, we’ve done this before on 2 yr. olds". We are talking about a 14 yr. old with quite a large root on the end of it, plus Dr. Kate should have known from the last extractions, my daughter does not numb up well. I also do not understand What I do not understand is why when we go every 6 months for check ups the cavities that were filled today were not discovered 6 months ago. I am very upset with this practice and will not be returning. And if I could submit this without any stars, I would.
