We contacted Dr. Schmitz in order to obtain dental services. During the initial consultation we provided our dental insurance information. We were given a statement on company letter head (which i still have) showing the estimated amount our insurance would cover and what our responsibility was. The service was provided and we paid the amount quoted to us from the estimate. Later, we were informed by the office staff that the amount they quoted to us was incorrect and that we actually owed more money. I understand that they used the word "estimate" but the new amount we were asked to pay was far greater than the original amount. I am sorry that some member of the office staff ran our insurance incorrectly or failed to pre-authorize the work. If we had known what the true cost was going to be we would have sought an alternative. Dr. Schmitz has now turned our account over to collections and we are being harassed because I refuse to pay for their mistake.
