I have been a client and participent of Dr. Powers Eating Disorder out patient groups for one year. I have never been able to gain weight before without hospital intervention, but with Dr. Powers groups, and her excellent staff, I have gained weight to be considered "healthy". An Eating Disorder is difficult to treat or understand by the average person. But it is the most deadly form of mental illness. It affects the mind terribly as well as the body. Often times the patient herself does not comprehend the issues behind the disease nor the seriousness as it ravages the body. Dr. powers is excellent as a clinician and leader of our groups. She has helped so many women and young girls. She understands, she listens, she is non-judgemental regardless of behaviors brought about by the illness. Personally, I probably would be close to death, if not already dead, because of Dr. Powers and her wonderful staff. By the way, I have been battling this disorder for 30 years and am 62 years old. Eating Disorders does not "go away". Sometimes it is a life long battle, as I have discovered. Thank you Dr. Powers for all your help, patience and compassion.
