Ron Barbanell, DDS, DMSc

I earned my DDS in 1971 from the University of California, San Francisco and continued post-graduate training at the Harvard Forsyth Training Center for Clinical Scholars in Oral Biology. I received my D.M.Sc. degree (Doctor of Medical Sciences) fin 1975 it is a degree accomplished thru the Harvard school of dental medicine under the auspress of the Faculty of Medicine. I was awarded my Certification in Periodontology from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in the same year. I am a former Assistant Professor of Periodontics (1971-1973) and Clinical Professor (special assistant to the Dean 1994) at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry.

I began performing dental implants in 1979 after a year-long program offered at the University of Southern California. I have successfully placed thousands of implants since then. In 1986 I co-founded--with several other prominent implantologists--the Southern California Dental Implant Study Club. I was also a member of the Loma Linda University Dental Implant Study Club from 1985 to 1993.

I am a patient of Dr. Barbanell and just learned of his passing approximately three weeks ago. I am deeply saddened to learn of this man's passing. He has left us far too soon. I saw Dr. Barbanell and his staff in his Long Beach office from November 2014 through May 2015 after consulting an endodontist who wanted to do a root canal on two teeth under a 3-crown bridge. My suspicions were aroused as a new dentist had not indicated any such issue with one of the teeth! Dr. Barbanell took a look at the questionable tooth and said it seemed fine, saved the crown by cutting the bridge to make way for my implants, polished it and gave me two crown implants which is what I really needed. The implants were the best choice for me given the costs compared to what the endodontist was ready to charge! Dr. Barbanell was most pleasant, highly professional, with a can-do, confident manner. I am thoroughly satisfied by his Long Beach office staff and intend to have future dental work performed in the office. Thank you, Dr. Barbanell, you were the best! You leave a legacy of professionalism that is incomparable and I am forever grateful our paths have crossed. God Bless you!

This dentist had a very bad attitude when a problem arose that he wasn't able to figure out. I endured 5 weeks of pain with a dental implant and the loss of a tooth because of his misdiagnosis. He kept prescribing antibiotics for 4 months to try and control an infection instead of making a real effort to figure out where the problem originated. Beware of anyone that tells you that the "the pain will go away" from a dental implant. Dental implants should never hurt!!! He has a very high volume of business, making it impossible for him to give the attention required to each patient.
