I took my eight year old to this physician when my son broke his leg at the ACL and need Open Reduction/internal fixation of the tibial spine. From the time I walked in the door, I did not get a good feeling from this practice. As a mother, I should have listened to my insticts. The office staff (Gulf Coast Orthopedics, Pensacola, FL) was extremely rude. My husband was made to carry my son throughout the office from the exam to X-ray and back to the exam room. They did not offer a wheel chair or any assistance. Dr. Hendrix blamed the ER for not sending pain medication home with my child. The ER knew of the pending surgery and did not provide anything which would hinder surgery of the knee. Surgery was scheduled for two days later. After we left Dr. Hendrix office, we realized he still did not have anything for pain tlerance. We were told to call back if needed. Four hours later, we contacted the office and had to wait for four hours for the nurse to call. We were chastized because they were in surgery. There were six other physicians and numerous physician's that could have addressed our issue but refused. When the nurse called back, it was nine o'clock at night. All pharmacies were closed by then except one - across town. Pill form of Tylenol #3 was called in. My son was finally able to swallow it down. Turns out it was way too strong because it came back up with dry heaves. The next morning, I called their office to request a pediatric dose and liquid. It was another two hours before the nurse called me. At that point, I had enough. Dr. Hendrix called me back and we mutaully agreed that he would not be doing the surgery nor would I allow anyone in that practice to touch my child. There was absolutely no compassion for the eight year old who was make to lay and wait in pain. An adult can deal with pain but a child in waiting in pain is like waiting for Christmas.
