Dr. Safayan started his medical training in Southeast Asia and completed it through Indiana University Medical School in 1986. He completed his internship in New York City and his residency in Internal Medicine in Washington, DC. He is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has been a primary care provider since 1990.

Presently, he serves as the preceptor in charge of the UCLA/HMI Medical Acupuncture course for physicians, which trains over 300 physicians a year.

Dr. Safayan’s areas of interest include integrative medicine; bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, an alternative to conventional synthetic hormone replacement therapy; prolotherapy, an injection therapy for treating chronic pain; medical acupuncture; nutritional counseling and supplementation; and NAET, a non-medical method of reducing allergies and sensitivities.

Dr. Safayan is a frequent lecturer at integrative medical centers across the country. He has also made several guest appearances on PBS television.

Dr. Safayan serves as the Vice President for Medical Affairs of Global Watch Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare for women and children in Afghanistan.
