I'll start by saying that my only motivation in writing this review is to caution the parents of Dr. Fox's patients - You are your child's only advocate and they need you to speak up when something isn't right.

Here is my story: I am a former patient of Dr. Fox's and was treated from the ages of 13-17 ( I am now 20). After having a bad reaction to a SSRI perscribed by my pediatrition, Dr. Fox misdiagnosed me as bipolar and perscribed me a combination of depression medications and mood stabilizers. Immediately my whole life changed - i slept over twelve hours a day, my grades dropped very quickly, i gained 100 lbs(over the duration), and my emotional state quickly declined. Some medications made me feel like a zombie, while others made me feel completly agitated. When my parents expressed their concerns to Dr. Fox about my behavior, he assured them that it was my mental illness and he proceeded to increase the medications. Finally, after years with no improvement and urging from my psychologist to send me to a residential treatment center, my parents became fed-up and removed me from Dr. Fox's care. My new doctor determined that I was never bipolar (he diagnosed me with depression and PTSD), and weened me off of all of my medications (it took one and a half years doing it slowly) except for one depression medication - since then my life has drastically improved - i have lost 100 lbs, and I finally feel awake and happy to be alive!

I don't think that Dr. Fox intended to hurt me - he was doing what he thought was right. However I spent years of my youth in pain, and I had to work very hard to get back to the place that I started from. The worst part is that I truely believed that I was crazy, and my family bieved that I should be
institutionalized. My frustration is that Dr. Fox increased or added medications instead of ceasing those that clearly weren't working. I don't want to cause Dr. Fox any trouble, as I am sure that he has probably helped a lot of kids, but I would like to apeal to parents - please don't allow you're children to suffer through years of pain like I did. If the medications don't seem to be working and your Doctor isn't listening, get a second opinion.
