I first was a patient of Dr Sheldon C Brown in 1970, I had severed a tendon and nerve in my 4th finger, left hand. Dr Brown was the emergency surgeon at Alta Bates Hospital, repaired the damage, and I eventually recovered with full use of that finger. I was able to curl the finger to the palm of my hand, something later surgeons said would not be possible. I also regained total feeling in my finger, Dr Brown said the nerve would grow back.

The second time was recently, 9/2012, I developed an arthritic mucous cyst above the nail on my third finger, left hand. Dr Brown removed the cyst, will follow up later regarding the recovery and success, but as of now, it looks good.

I would recommend Dr Brown to anyone that needs the services of an orthopedic hand surgeon, they don't come any better than him. I believe he has discontinued performing surgery, but I would check with him regarding that status since I believe he accepts patients according to the injury and need.
