I went to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Emergency in December 1981 as a young woman in acute distress. Dr. Maurice Carlin initiated comprehensive care for three days ICU before placement of a left side shunt for hydrocephalus. I still have the original shunt in place. I had to have an extension distally in 1990 at Oaknol Naval Hospital and a second shunt placed on right side because of scar tissue blockage in 2006, but that left shunt is still working. Dr. Carlin is a marvelous surgeon.
