Hmmm. First, he nearly kills me, then his staff broke the law, refusing to release my records to me.
TMI Alert: Don't read further if you're squeamish. Some years ago, I had a colonoscopy from Dr. Parikh. He found a large polyp, too big to snip out; biopsy showed - to his surprise, given the size - that it was benign. We treated it with antibiotics. Then, there was a follow-up sigmoidoscopy. The polyp was gone. So far, so good. Two days after the sigmoidoscopy, I was totally blocked, couldn't get anything out, not even urine. I was rushed to the hospital, and was diagnosed with a colon abscess, which required emergency colon surgery. Thankfully, the surgeon was able to drain the abscess and stitch me up, without removing a segment of my colon or putting me on a colostomy bag. Anyway, it was a very close thing.
Dr. Parikh was kind and professional about it; he didn't duck responsibility, acknowledging that the timing of my emergency suggested that the sigmoidoscopy might have scored the colon. As a result, I forgave him and let it go. I didn't post this at that time.
Yes, I had some rather severe trepidation, but it's important to do it every few years at a certain age. So, I called Parikh's office, and said that I'd like to pick up my file personally. To my astonishment, since it's my legal right to take my file, they refused, citing policy. I said that they hadn't released the papers to the new doctor, and that it's my legal right to the file. They claimed to have received no request from the new doctor. So, I went in for my colonoscopy, with the doctor having had no access to my previous file. I told the new doctor what had happened. She was astonished, and said that she'd actually called Parikh's office, immediately after sending her request for my file, to make sure that they had received it. So, they lied to me and violated my legal rights.
I'm uneasy about Parikh's competence. But, his staff is a horror show.
