My initial call was Friday, the 2nd of October, 2009, two days after seeing the doctor. My follow up calls were Monday and Tuesday. Today’s date is Wednesday the 7th of October and the call was not a return call from the voicemail I had left when I called Friday, it was to schedule my next appointment.
I have Psoriasis. My skin was red and felt raw (like a bad sunburn) and I called to tell your office to inform you that I skipped applying Dovonex last night (Tuesday) and ask whether that is acceptable, or if there was another combination of ointments that would work. I was told again, that information can not be discussed over the phone, and that I should tell the doctor of that on my next appointment. Since she called to schedule that appointment, she very well knows it is several days away. I do not wish to endure the pain of my current treatment that much longer!
I was put on hold and then my call passed on to a nurse, Erika/Erica. My inquiry was answered by, “Well, if it hurts, you should probably stop it” – exactly my thinking! I just wondered why I was being treated with such exasperation.
When asked about the results of my Strep Test (to check if that’s what caused my Psoriasis). I am told those results, and my blood work cannot be discussed over the phone. I was prescribed medication for Strep and feel that I should not take it if I do not have Strep. Erika/Erica asked, “Why did the doctor prescribe you the medication in the first place?” with rampant irritation in her voice. Her annoyance was not warranted. I just wanted a rational answer.
The purpose was not to intentionally waste your time, nor mine, and it is definitely not to question the knowledge of my Physician. The intention of my query is to benefit myself by means of possibly altering my treatment and to lessen the pain and get the “Why” questions answered, not to get rhetoric al statements.
Maybe I am one of the few, who want to be involved with the care of their condition. I quite possibly ask more questions and take longer when going in to see my doctor. While I do what is asked of me, I also appreciate knowing why. Your office would not have received a call from me, had I not been experiencing pain. I would appreciate it if your staff accorded your patients the same attentiveness and respect they give you.

Dr. Effron is truly a sales person. I waited in the waiting room for her for about an hour and a half. I was to be seen for a pigment discoloration at the corner of my mouth, which turns out to be vitiligo as diagnosed by a good dermatologist. She finally came in the room, didn't even look at this vitiligo spot and went straight for the rosacea. She said, oh you have rosacea pretty bad, I recommend myself to do laser treatment and you should buy a bunch of my cosmetics. She tried to sell me 5 laser sessions at her Anaheim Hills clinic and about 150.00 in her cosmetics. Wow thanks for nothing. To top it off, apparently my PPO would not cough up money to pay there portion. Instead of receiving a statement for the balance 4 months later I receive a phone call from a collections agency. Thanks for ruining my credit and not paying attention to why I originally showed up. Don't bother talking to Donna in billing. She told me that I should learn how to pay my bills and that she doesn't have time to talk to someone who doesn't pay on time and hung up on me. Come on, whats with our health care system?
