X-Ray and Diagnostic Ultrasound Onsite

Diagnostics onsite for quick diagnosis and patient's convenience. This allows for minimal wait time, early diagnosis, and leads to an appropriate treatment plan with the goal of early return to play or work.

Description
No line, no waiting with onsite diagnostics. Fagan Sports Medicine strives to provided quality care in an efficient manner for their patients. Onsite xray and ultrasound provide diagnostic capabilities for most sports related and acute injuries preventing the need for referral to off-site locations. The size of the practice makes wait minimal and allows for the doctors to see patients in a respectable amount of time. No waiting hours for xrays. No more being sent to other locations for diagnostics (except MRI's). In most cases the patient is examined, appropriate study ordered, completed and reviewed with the physician in the same amount of time as you would wait in many of the other sports medicine offices in town
Viscosupplementation For the Knee

FDA-approved treatment for osteoarthritis. Viscosupplementation is a lubricant that is injected into the knee. It serves as a "shock absorber" for the arthritic knee which has lost its natural cushioning.

Description
Viscosupplementation for the knee is typically given in a series of three to five injections separated by a week. Most insurances cover the cost of the injections when given for the appropriate diagnosis. The injections are done in the office. Following the injections it is generally recommended that no vigorous activity is performed the remainder of that day, however, the following day normal activity, including exercise, may be resumed. Side effects are rare and if occur are typically limited to mild joint swelling and discomfort. As with any injection the risk for infection, bleeding at the site, and increased pain are possible but this has not been the experience of injections given physicians at Fagan Sports Medicine. Results typically last from 6-12 months in appropriately selected candidates. Unfortunately there are a minority of patients who have little to no improvement following the injections.

PRP

Description:
What is PRP-Platelet Rich Plasma? Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is blood plasma with concentrated platelets. The concentrated platelets found in PRP include growth factors among the huge reservoirs of bioactive proteins that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. These bioactive proteins increase stem cell production to initiate connective tissue healing, bone regeneration and repair, promote development of new blood vessels and stimulate the wound healing process.

How Does PRP Therapy Work? To prepare PRP, a small amount of blood is taken from the patient. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins and through a multi-functional process separates the plasma from the blood producing the PRP. This increases the concentration of platelets and growth factors.

When PRP is injected into the damaged area it stimulates the tendon or ligament causing mild inflammation that triggers the healing cascade. As a result new collagen begins to develop. As this collagen matures it begins to shrink causing the tightening and strengthening of the tendons and ligaments of the damaged area.

Treatment Plan PRP injections with guided ultrasound can be performed on tendons and ligaments all over the body. Acute and chronic sports related injuries are of special interest in the use of PRP. Degenerative joints can also be treated with PRP.

Dr. Fagan spends plenty of time with her patients and has a genuine goal to heal and repair whatever can be remediated. I actually had Dr. Fagan and 2 other MD's look at the same blood work; the other docs were largely dismissive even though the lab report specifically said certain things were too low or out of balance. Dr. Fagan recommended nutritional support for my issues which have largely been corrected as a result, where before these issues persisted for 8 years or more before I consulted her. She is progressive.
