Carol is a warm, reassuring , and caring person. However, we found her therapeutic techniques less than desirable. First, she doesn't appear to take notes, and this is reflected in the fact that she appears to be aloof about topics discussed during previous sessions and basically starts over each visit,"riffing" her way thorough the session. For instance, the main reason we sought counseling was over some pretty serious differences that resulted in my spouse moving out. Two sessions later she did not seem to have the slightest recollection of that event and we spent a good part of our session re- inventing the wheel instead of taking of from where we had stopped previously. (And her prices are not cheap.-$185 for 45 mins.)
Secondly, she tends to use herself as a role model. For instance, she related to us that she cheerfully picks up her retired spouse's clothes off the floor because she remembers the hot coffee he brings her in the morning, and that neutralized any negative feelings she may have about being his personal servant. She suggested that this was a healthy state of affairs and I would do well to follow her example. Unfortunately she missed our issues by miles while touting her personal coping (or denial) mechanisms and left me feeling guilty and confused.
If you want a friendly person to pat you on the back, I would highly recommend Ms. Hawker. If you have complex marital issues, I would recommend seeking treatment elsewhere.
