Patience

by armymom
I get discouraged easy. I haven't lost any weight and a few times now I have just thrown my hands up and eaten whatever I wanted. I know it won't happen overnite but I'm impatient. I don't want to be fat anymore.
Going to the gym is like going to church. When you go regular, it's just part of your routine, but the more you miss, the harder it is to go back.
I was off several days in a row and therefore didn't drive the 45 miles to the gym. Yesterday, was Wednesday and even though I was off I talked my 15 year old daughter into going to 'line dancing' with me, so we made the drive and went to the class and I felt really good afterwards!
Okay honestly I didn't exactly talk her into going, it was more of a bribe and it cost me $60 at Walmart to enjoy her company but it was worth it.
Go back to work 2mro for 5 straight days. Going to try to go to the gym at least 3 of those days. Will let you know how it goes ; ).

armymom - I do most of my workouts at home! I only get to the gym twice a week. Training at home is the best. And I don't have any home gym equipment so there's no excuse. I wake up and have my clothes and gym shoes laid out next to my bed. I drink some water and head out the door to walk for 30 minutes. Then I return home and do a 40 minute routine - a variety of floor exercises - crunches, push-ups, lunges, squats. I also have a 35 pound kettlebell (worth investing in one yourself - perhaps start out with a 15 pound one or less. Try a few out at the store before you buy it). There are plenty of kettlebell routines on YouTube that you can follow at home. The magic is in doing it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach if you want to burn fat. Train at home before your day gets started. No need to drive to the gym to see progress.

Okay, I'm confused. I thought you were always suppost to eat breakfast to kickstart your metabolism. So I should exercise before I eat?

I'll add my former personal trainer 2 cents if you don't mind.

If you don't workout first thing in the morning, then definitely go for breakfast first. However, doing an aerobic workout immediately after waking up programs the body to use fat tissue as energy (fat needs to be oxidized in order to burn). If you're going to run, jog, swim, etc., first thing in the morning on an empty stomach is the best way to burn fat. This only counts for aerobic exercises though, strength training is a whole different ball of wax.

Of course as always, eat IMMEDIATELY after a workout.
