Is sex the only reason to offer women testosterone?

by BethRosenshein
It shouldn’t be.

Testosterone is a hormone that all human beings need to stay healthy. When I hear that menopause is normal and natural and therefore should go untreated I think about how everyone suffers from that kind of thinking. Around age 40-50 everyone needs reading glasses. That is natural and normal. Should only men wear reading glasses but not women?

What do you think about when you think of men and testosterone? Testosterone is for muscle strength, stamina, sex, staying smart, and thinking clearly.

Now think the same thing about women. It feels strange only because we have been taught that testosterone is a hormone only found in men. Did you know that before menopause women have 8- 10 times more testosterone in their bodies than estrogen? If a woman is in menopause why do we only talk about her estrogen being replaced? What about her testosterone being replaced?

When a woman is in menopause she has lost her major supply of testosterone due to ovarian failure. Her ovaries produced a large portion of her testosterone and now that source is gone. Is there any way she could be the same as she was before ovarian failure? Testosterone is for muscle strength, stamina, sex, staying smart, and thinking clearly in everyone’s body. Would you ask a man to forgo testosterone replacement if his gonads failed? Then why do we ask women to?
