Look Years Younger, Cheaper Than a Facelift

Exercise is most certainly essential for your body, but it’s also great for your face. Facial exercises can improve skin tone and elasticity, reduce visible lines, help enhance your smile and increase blood flow to improve muscle tone that can help you look younger and healthier. A study published in JAMA Dermatology found that just a few months of facial exercises can make people look 3 years younger, as reported by the NY Times.

You don’t need any expensive workout gear to give these a try, just a mirror:

1. The smile exercise

· Start with your face and lips in a relaxed state. Stretch the corners of your mouth to the sides while keeping your lips together and hold for 10 seconds.

· Expand the stretch and part your lips to expose the edge of your teeth and hold for 10 seconds.

· Stretch further and expose about half of your teeth and hold for 10 seconds.

· Smile as wide and hard as you can, with all your teeth showing and hold for 10 seconds.

· Reverse these steps back to a relaxed state.

2. The smile line eraser

· Get rid of of fine lines around your mouth, helping you look younger. In yoga, this exercise is referred to as the fish pose.

· Purse your lips as dramatically as possible by sucking in your cheeks and rolling your lips out.

· Try to smile while doing this.

· Hold this pose as long as you can, then release.

3. The silly rabbit

· Smile as wide as you can, without opening your lips.

· Wiggle your nose like a rabbit.

· Hold this pose for 5 seconds.

· Repeat steps 10 times.

4. The face-lift

· With your mouth slightly open and the upper lip relaxed, flare out your nostrils and wrinkle the nose with an exaggerated motion.

· Pull up the upper lip and hold for a count of 10. Slowly release.

· Repeat steps 10 times.

Don’t laugh, it’s cheaper than a facelift. But you are encouraged to smile!

Not discounting the more lasting muscle tone that comes from smiling... but I saw myself on video the other day and realized I looked old and unhappy. Didn't seem like "me" as I wasn't unhappy. I re-recorded the video which took 5 minutes and reminded myself to smile. I swear it made me look 10-15 years younger just with that minimal effort. I shudder to think of how many times that's been me in real life when I could easily remember to smile! I'll try the exercises too! Thank you
