Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: When I was 9 years old, I spent several days in the hospital. As a child, the experience was frightening. My family doctor at the time didn't have a very warm personality, which only increased my anxiety. Covering for him over the weekend however, was a family doctor that was very good with kids. He treated me with an approach that was both lighthearted and humorous, alleviating my fears. His way of calming my nerves was more therapeutic than what treatments were being rendered by the hospital. He was the inspiration for my pursuing a career in primary care.
